Doctoral scholarships – Call for applications

In the framework of the partnership between the University of Khartoum and the French Centre for Economic, Law and Social Studies in Khartoum (CEDEJ Khartoum), the latter offers two ten-month scholarships (+ Fees registration support), for PhD candidates in Social Sciences and Humanities from April 2018 to January 2019.

Eligibility 
The scholarship is open to candidates in Social Sciences and Humanities: Sociology, Geography, History, Political Science, Anthropology, Economy and Law. Applicants must be registered as PhD candidates at the University of Khartoum.

Description
This scholarship is the result of a partnership between the Faculty of Economic and Social Studies of the University of Khartoum and CEDEJ Khartoum with the aim of supporting PhD candidates in their research activities. Each scholarship is planned for a period of 10 months (April 2018-January 2019) with a monthly amount of 3,000 SDG. Additional 20,000 SDG will be added in order to support registration fees in the University of Khartoum. The beneficiaries shall become Associate PhD students of CEDEJ Khartoum and shall actively take part into the research programs of the institute, in collaboration with the University of Khartoum and their PhD supervisor. The successful candidates will have access to the Centre’s library in Khartoum 2. They will present the progress of their research at the occasion of the seminars organized in CEDEJ Khartoum, or at the University of Khartoum.

Proposals shall deal with the following research areas:
  • Migrations within/from/to/through the Horn of Africa
  • Religion and politics
  • Sudan Political Economy
  • Sudan in its regional/international environment


Application and Selection
Applicants have to submit a detailed CV, a motivation letter, their PhD research project (5 pages maximum) and a document certifying their actual registration as PhD student at the University of Khartoum. Closing date for application: 15th of April 2018. Selection of candidates will be made by the Coordinator of CEDEJ Khartoum, in coordination with the Faculty Dean of the University of Khartoum. Interviews may be realized, depending on the number of candidates.

The scholarships will then start as soon as possible, ideally by the end of April.
