Position summery:
To develop and apply knowledge of inorganic/analytical science and analyses of samples that are processed in order to improve and to promote current procedures as per ISO 17025 guidelines in order to ensure the company stays competitive.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
• Perform research and development for the laboratory, finding better methods and procedures.
• Manage subordinates with their work, where required, by adding input and guidance.
• Responsible for maintaining compliance of ISO 17025 standards
• Write comprehensive technical reports describing the results of samples.
• Apply creative ability and knowledge of analytical methods and technologies to solve analytical problems.
• Train staff on newly developed analytical techniques, practical knowledge of operation of different instruments
• Manage the continual improvement on processes/ analytical procedures.
• Manage and maintain analytical instrumentation with regards to quality, availability and cost management.
• Validate all results from all analysis steps in the lab, with the goal of determining if the results meet the standards or requirements
• Employ a variety of methods requiring basic lab-work skills and thorough understanding of chemical testing equipment and processes
• Preserve workplace safety and safe materials handling as appropriate.
• Any other duties as and when required by the Board that are reasonably within the capabilities of the person and aimed at achieving the Company or Group goals.
Minimum Qualification & Experience:
Qualification:
- A Master’s degree in Chemistry (Desirable)
- A Bachelors degree in Chemistry
- Certificate in Quality Control Implementations or equivalent
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years as a QC Chemist
- Experience in the mining industry (Desirable)
Required Skills & Knowledge:
- In-depth understanding of ISO 17025 requirements
- Statistical analysis
- Analytical techniques – know and interpret assay results accurately
- Sound understanding on Standard Operating Practices (SOP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Laboratory procedures development
- Spectroscopy technique knowledge – AAS, ICP, XRF, CS
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external parties at all levels
- Ability to deal effectively with external parties at all levels
- Ability to build and maintain excellent relationships with clients and colleagues
- Attention to details
- Have good telephone skills, verbal communication, listening, professionalism, customer focus, organizing, informing others
- Computer literacy (MS Office, LIMS, INTERNET etc)
- Intensive knowledge of local mining business
- English language proficiency
