Position summery:
To operate scientific equipment, mainly atomic absorption spectrometers (AAS), record results and report them for validation. To calibrate instrument using specific software and carry out routine/daily monitoring of instrument performance, assuring results issued are within acceptable meet passing criteria at all time.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Calibration & Maintenance of high end laboratory equipments
a. Operate daily the Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS) in order to ensure good instrument output and results are achieved.
b. Ensure superficial equipment maintenance, service & repair of AAS is carried out regularly and co-ordinate the servicing and maintenance contractors as required

2. Supervision and Coordination
a. Co-ordinate laboratory instrumental analysis in order to ensure that the right equipment is used by the right person at the right time for the right parameters
b. Ensure proper use of all working solutions and timely disposal of solutions including standard reference is done on a regular basis to achieve desired performance.
c. Assist the Weighing technician, Sample/Standard preparation technician and Wet Chemistry technicians in order to ensure work is carried out effectively and productively
3. HSE
a. Observe all company health, safety and environmental instructions, act in a safe manner and avoid unnecessary risks to themselves and others
b. Immediately report any unsafe conditions or activities, dangerous occurrences or injuries in the workplace
c. Execute any incident investigation thoroughly by analysis and follow-up in order to prevent recurrence
d. Assist new employees in the use of relevant work procedures and practices in order to ensure their safety and the safety of all employees
e. Adhere and practice safety as per the company HSE guidelines and policy at all times

Minimum Qualification & Experience:
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry (Essential)
  • Certificate of Qualification as Assayer (Desirable)


Experience:
Minimum of 5 years’ experience with instrumentation within an analytical services laboratory (Essential)
Experience in using ICP, XRF and CS (Desirable)
Required Skills & Knowledge:
Technical competence with a strong background and/or ability to learn instrumentation
Computer skills sufficient to operate spreadsheet and database application programs
Superior analytical and problem solving skills
Effective oral and written communication skills
