Job Summary: 
Under limited direction, a database specialist is responsible for providing the planning, coordination, utilization and administration of Oracle relational databases, MS-SQL relational databases, and other file organization and access methods. Responsible for ensuring appropriate definition, organization, integrity, operational efficiency, operational support, scheduling, availability and documentation of the databases. Acts as the arbiter over the structure and contents of critical databases, establishing and enforcing rules, standards and guidelines. Establishes written guidelines for the overall use of database management systems, combining old databases into new ones, providing security for business's databases, and making and testing modifications to databases. Responsible for implementing high availability of Databases and highly complex projects.

Description: 
  • Oversees the proper distribution and controlled replication of data across sites and databases
  • Implements and supports the use of Oracle Enterprise Manager (Grid Control), Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC), Oracle Data guard and database replication tools.
  • Consults with users to address needs and problems, analyse business scenarios and recommend technology solutions to clients.
  • Management of RDBMS software, systems infrastructure and people to provide high quality service.
  • Plans and executes performance tests of physical data base designs.
  • Understand and proactively plan software and infrastructure to meet both technical and business needs.
  • Assigns and controls names used for the various portions of data base to include, transaction codes, elements, tables, records, schema and sub-schema.
  • Monitor performance and managing parameters to provide fast query responses to 'front end' users.
  • Designs information flow and content solutions for existing systems to structure and access databases.
  • Consider both 'back end' organization of data and 'front end' accessibility for end users.
  • Maintains standards for critical data elements to provide for data sharing, merging and interchange.
  • Designs the physical implementation of logical database requirements, to include de-normalization.
  • Install and testing new versions of the database management system (DBMS).
  • Monitors file system space, database allocation, and data integrity, verifies efficient use of disk storage, reclaims dead space, optimizes space allocation and avoids out-of-space conditions.
  • Maintains documentation about test and production database environments to help resolve potential production problems.
  • Ensures adequate security safeguards are in place to control access to all databases.
  • Ensures the integrity of data base files through the daily monitoring of database backups, logs, journals and transaction statistics.
  • Implements data restore and recovery plans and procedures to protect and continue data system and database activities including storage (ASM, OCFS, RMAN and Datapump) that support broader emergency or disaster recovery plans.
  • Prepares periodic reports on the status of all database systems to including performance data, economics data and database usage, by provides written and oral reporting to management on request inform of capacity plan.

Job Requirements: 
Possess a Bachelor's Degree from university with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, and Business Administration, Engineering or a closely related field. 
Possess oracle’s database administrator certificates (Oracle Certified associate / Oracle Certified Professional). 
Minimum 2 years of relevant working experience

Required Skills: 
Experience in RAC and SAN configuration. 
Experience of Data Guard. 
Excellent Database design skills. 
Up-to-date knowledge of technology and the Data Protection Act.
